Default Badugi?

I think its spelled like that anyway? lol

Any who, i was scanning the up coming tourneys at Poker stars one night and saw one getting ready to start, so i registered, didn't even look to see what the hell game it was,..lol.....and it was some game called Bagui {:spelling?}...well when i saw i had noooooo idea what the hell this was, i sat out two hands and read the rules, figured out what was going on, and sat back in.....i had a freakin blast! lolll

Your main objective is to try and get 4 unsuited cards and the lowest possible ones...like all four aces would be great!..you get three draws, and you can stand if you have a good hand and don't want to change anything...has anyone played this before?

I loved it, and it was something new to do.....cool!

That's called Badugi.

Four down cards delt to players, and three draws.
Get the lowest hand possible, without pairs or same suited cards.

Four Aces would be 4 of a kind, not good in Badugi.

The best hand in Badugi; 4, 3, 2, A off suit.

Although you get three draws in Badugi, I usually stick with a 9 or lower, and don't bother calling with a couple high cards most of the time.

This game is a blast and you can win with a 3-card Badugi; 3, 2, A off-suit, or three other low cards.

Badugi is about the same as the 2-7 game, but with only 4 cards instead of 5;
without same suited cards, and you can have a strait if there are no suits the same.

I have heard of this game and never played it.

Sounds like fun especially with draws!

I like a good low game every once in a while...where can you play it?

If you would like to play a lot of free games for practice, try the PS.net, or their .com site has a play button in the Sit and Go tab where you can play Badugi.

I can only find it under the fixed 300+20 table for now.

Every so often you can also find it in a play money tourney. Either in NL, Limit, or Fixed. I'm not sure if they have a Pot Limit in Badugi, but that may be what Limit is.

Badugi is an 8 player table game.

Ok, I played the Stars' .com daily Badugi freeroll which is a qualifier for the weekly $2,000 freeroll....6428 entered, 64 got a seat (1%!)

This is only the 2nd time I've played Badugi, but I got a seat, so I must be doing something right.

Here's a few tips, and things to remember:

1. Pay more attention to suits, rather than the rank of your cards.

The key to Badugi is to make the best 4 card hand more than it is to make the lowest; as opposed to Razz. For instance, a hand of

will be beaten by a hand of

.

2. Keep an eye on people that are standing pat.

This doesn't mean that you need to fold to someone that stands pat after the 1st or 2nd draw, but most of the time you need to, if you don't have a strong drawing hand.

3. Remember that you have 3 draws to make your hand.

If it's cheap enough, I'll start a hand off with anywhere from A2xx all the way up to 9 high; as long as I'm at least two suited. As with other games really depends on the table and the players.

4. Keep track of the suits that you've thrown away..

If you need to break up your hand, this will come in handy, as you have less of a chance to match up the new suit...

Remember, if you're 3 suited already, there's only 13 other cards that won't hit what suits you have in your hand, and the remaining cards will mess your hand up by matching the suits that you have....

In all, this game is more frustrating than Razz; but it makes you think more. I like it

Nice going with the $tournament placement beaston.

Did you notice a lot of people thinking they had the best hand, with hands like; KQ98 and worse?

I noticed this while playing the freerolls too.

Like you had mentioned, I usually won't play unless I can get 9 or less in this game.
Unless the players are checking, then I will play up to a J or Q high with a 4 card Badugi.
