Default Poker Players Rally to Raise Funds for Jade's St. Clare's Hospice

Ronnie O'Sullivan, Roy Brindley, Tony Cascarino, and Colin Lloyd among the stars taking to the felt in charity poker tournament at Harlow Stadium on March 18.
London, England (PRWEB) March 9, 2009 -- In a week when a report has shown donations to England's hospices has declined sharply in recent months, Harlow Stadium and professional poker player Roy "the Boy" Brindley have announced a charity night to raise funds for the nearby St Clare's Hospice which recently cared for the terminally ill reality TV star Jade Goody.
On March 18 at 7:30 p.m. card-sharp Brindley and an estimated 100 players will ante-up a £55 entry fee for a team poker tournament with all profits going to the hospice.
Snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan is set to captain a team as is former World No. 1 darts player Colin "Jaws" Lloyd and soccer star Tony Cascarino. Wayne Mardle may also chance his arm on the green felt and will certainly play in another fundraising event on the night, a 150-player fundraising darts tournament.
Marketing and PR director at Harlow Stadium, Mick Davis, said, "We will be cramming in as many people into our 'Harlow Hounds Social Club' on the night for the poker and darts event as possible.
"Outside on the terraces there will be greyhound racing as usual, with free entry for this special night, where we hope to raise another good sum through donations and a raffle for which we have had some brilliant prize donations.
"Roy will be signing copies of his recently released autobiography, 'Life's a Gamble' with proceeds again going to St Clare's Hospice. Our thanks go to him for his efforts likewise restaurant chain Miller & Carter who will be laying on a buffet free of charge.
"St Clare's is such a worthy local cause and with such high-profile guests lending their support we would hope to raise a five-figure sum on the night."

Tony Cascarino was a crap player for my team. The Jade Goody thing is just tragic. For non brits, she made her fame on big brother, she never won but she was one of the very few who capitalized on it. Dying of cancer at 27 with 2 young kids, its a sickening thought

Yes it is and still getting unwanted attention. I saw in the news just the other day that a woman was found standing over her bed with a hammer in her hand as Goody woke up.

Her husband just left to go down the hall to get coffee when she slipped in.

Its is just awful to have to go through what she is gong through - the family shouldn't have to worry about psychos to boot!

Here is the last thing I read:

Quote:
The doctors called the police who arrived within a very short period of time and arrested the French woman.

The police questioned her at the police station. They learnt the woman was 41 years old and that she was saying a prayer in Goody’s room. Apparently she did not intend to use the hammer to hurt Jade. After questioning her, the police released the French woman from detention and will not conduct any further investigation against her.
The English are so forgiving
