Default possible to quit?

I have a question for the entire poker community. First of all, I'd like to say that poker isn't just a card game that you can win money at. It isn't just gambling. There's way more to it than meets the eye (as I am very quickly starting to learn). I like it because of the amount of thinking and smarts this so called sport takes. Even though luck is a lot of it too. But anyway, do you think it is possible to give up the addiction of gamblling and still play poker(freerolls only)? Adddicted to gambling, hmmmmmmm..........let's say a good 7 on a 1 to 10 scale. What is your thoughts?

most folks would argue that poker isnt gambling any more than backgammon is.

Hard question really....

I tend to think you lose some of the 'rush' if you play only for play money ... keep in mind freerolls are different because you still do win real money . As to whether you could only play freerolls; well I think they are not as exciting on a continuous basis as regular buy-ins are due to the large number of players who are too reckless in them ; myself included at times !!
Use the freerolls to try all different styles of play, experiment and find what works for you and then use what you've learned in some smaller buy-in tournies.......
Of course, this is just my opinion......

Bottom line is Poker is not gambleing in my books. IF you know what you are doing and dont make bad bets.

Since i have stoped putting money on poker sites i am having a lot more fun trying to get something for nothing playing freerolls. Even though there are more guys going all in for no reason at all in a freeroll. If you make it with in the top 20% of the players looking for money everything tightens up and it becomes just like playing in a real tourny.

BOTTOM BOTTOM LINE.... if playing freerolls makes you feel like you are gambleing and you are able to scratch your itch to gamble with freerolls then go for it. But if you still feel like you need to drop money on and play after the freeroll is over and you dont want to stop then you should take a step back and figure out what is important in life cause playing with the rent money is a losing way to live.

gl at the tables.

I'm going to play the devil's advocate.

If you realize that there is a problem. To judge it on a scale of 1 to 10 makes no sense to me. If you're problem is a 7, what makes that a 7 and not a 5 or a 10? Is it lack of opportunity? Just because you haven't lost your house or car or wife, is it possible you're a 7 because you haven't had enough time yet to make it to 10?
Here's the devil's advocate part. Marijuana is a gateway drug. Although many would argue it's medicinal uses and lack of physical addiction make it a safer than other drugs. It still is a drug. In the hands of a recovering addict wouldn't you beleive this to be a gateway back to addiction? Now relate that to gambling. POKer is a form of gambling. There is a rush you get from playing and a risk of losing money. So it would depend on whether you believe you're an addict or not. There's no grey area with addiction. You either crave it or you don't. If you feel possessed by the lure of playing poker perhaps you would be better off not using the freerolls as doctor prescribed methadone habit. Treat it more like marijuana as a gateway drug for an addict.

The doctor is out.

*Everything above is just my rambling. I am not really that opinionated nor do I pretend to be an expert on any subject.

Well I started playing money games and when that venture wasn' successful I switched to freerolls only. I am happy to say that I have recouped my losses and am now in quite a handsome profit situation. So yes I switched and only play freerolls and with freeroll money.
