Real Players or Fake?
When playing at a pokersite with a table of other players, and say you instant message them with the chat feature, and that person does not reply, how do you know its a real player and not a computer generated player that the casino or poker room has planted there to play against real players ?

Re: Real Players or Fake?
I've often wondered the same thing. I do know some people don't like to chat, so they will turn it off. If they turn off their chat options, they won't see whether you are chatting to them or not.
I've seen discussion in areas on here where some of the poker players have mentioned site generated players. I've also experienced some bad beats from players who don't chat. That also has me wondering about your question catwoman.
Another thing I have thought about, is that some of the players are from another country and don't know how to read english, so it would be hard for them to respond.

Re: Real Players or Fake?
I'm not sure you can other than style of play. That is, are they playing the same way consistently with no variance.
Do they bet "in a rhythm" - meaning they bet or raise exactly the same speed every time.
During the height of the "bot" rage a couple of years ago, I had a player that I seemed to play with a lot. Every time a new player would come to the table he would chat "I'm a bot - Do not talk to me" and never chat another word.
There would be running conversations as to whether he was or wasn't - hilarious! After a few days - he would post that in the message box and then I would post behind him "Beware - I am the bot".
We'd have people leave the table!

Re: Real Players or Fake?
That's a good one propiper. Have you ever tried that in a game?
Come on with one chat message, "I am a Bot - Do not chat with me".
Ok, maybe varify it a few minutes later that you are not. Those who have played against you would know, but those who didn't would be wondering.

Re: Real Players or Fake?
This is allways a concern when playing online wheres money is involved, BOTs do play at tables and tourneys but can be abused their also,
they are most successfull in HU (heads-up poker)from what I understand about them,
I worry about being teamed up one, like a player having a router and made up accounts with multible players sitting at the same table, Can a site do this ? certainly, but do they do this all the time I would hope not, their are a few laws and groups of people that look after this and poker programs, but MUCH aint caught onto as we see as this booming industry continues.
When it comes to the player-v-player Fulltilt close a couple of accounts just last years saying that the were BOTS,with over 50K in the accounts, that would be a sad day for even a cheater. A/P & U/B got fined a healthy amount and also had to reinverse millions to players as well, so it is to be wondered about at ALL SITES..
also a RNG (Random Number Generators) is just a program, cause theirs money involved in this game you will have many people trying everything possible to break/cheat/steal/whatevers at their disposal..
Some believe the Govement won't have to make online poker illeagle cause the bots and cheaters will do it for them...
here a interesting read three pages:
HOW THEY CHEATED A POKER PROGRAM

Re: Real Players or Fake?
Geez, that brings up another question, with pokerrooms and casinos, how do we know that when the pokerroom yells...."cheater, bot. etc..." and takes all the money in the account, that they are not the ones stealing? Maybe they don't want to payout that big of a win, so they start yelling "bot, cheater, thief"
so many ways to cheat on both sides, you can never be 100% sure of anything.

Re: Real Players or Fake?
So what the players will need, at their own expence, would be a "Bot Detector". Does anyone have one of those?
A thought: If not, you could find one, or make one if possible, and sell it to the players. Throw it in the site's face and demand a refund when a bot is found as a player on their site.
If players had some kind of tool for detecting bots, they would gradually go away. Of course, in time they would appear again.

I don't think so - MOST reputable poker rooms and casinos don't want players to be cheated, they need them . So they do what they can to make sure the games are fair.
As far as poker, I'd take on a bot any day. I am one that believes that there isn't a bot out there that can beat a human. He can't bluff or "make a play" at you.
