Default freeroll 1st hand metality

I like to call the all in first hand of a freeroll the double up or go mow the lawn theory ......also I have noticed that the larger the number of people the quicker they are to go all in .....and the size of freeroll purse seems to change that also.....if you have 25 people playing for a 50 dollar prize payout then they get tight or if its 500 people with a 500 dollar payout they tight .....but if its either 50 dollars or 2000 people then you see more of a rammer jammer style

I think I'm at the other end of the scale here. I will fold the first 6-10 hands at a freeroll regardless of cards...If I'm in the blind I'll check or call the BB...but that's it. Had enough of calling pre-flop all-ins...and losing with superior hands.

But I see where you're coming from on this. With the number of available freerolls why not gamble a bit. On the other hand if there are only a couple of places you really like to play...and a tight schedule at home you might not want to put your seat on the line so easily. I personally love to play at JetSet where I'll play like a mouse the first hands and then make sure I survive the first break. After that it's more poker less bingo.

I'm with you papa... I hate it when I get playable hands early on in freerolls because you just know somebody's going all-in with junk and gonna win

Regardless of how good we all think we are, let's face it, there is quite a bit of luck involved in poker. Knowing how to read your opponents and how to bet the cards you are dealt is where the skill comes in. I know all of us has been beaten by players who couldn't play a decent hand if they wanted to because they got lucky...heck just last night I was trying to get out of a tourny because my son needed to get on the computer to do some work for a summer class he is taking and went all in on some serious garbage and double and tripled up several times before I finally just closed out the game and did a sit out thing...by that time I was really dreading getting out because my chip stack was fairly large and it looked real pretty sitting there, but his homework came first so I had to sacrifice....
