Default Going from #1 to eliminated

Something familiar but sucky happened to me last night. I joined a NL tournament and I built a pretty good chip lead. Out of ~250 participants I was always in the top 10, most of the time in the top 3.

Then when I had ~35k and the 5th person had 15k, I stopped winning. I'm not going to list all of them (ie AJ vs A4 on a 4k preflop raise), but one was memorable.

I had AQ and raised preflop. 6 handed table so you expect people to call more. The guy on my left wasn't giving me a lot of credit. Flop comes Q and two small cards. I make a pretty good sized bet and the guy calls. A 8 comes on the turn. I make a smaller bet, and he calls again. A jack comes on the river.

Well the guy called preflop and the flop with J8o and hit two pairs. We're talking deep in a tournament when the blinds are at something like 300/600. He called 2.4k preflop and 4k post flop. /cry

I ended up losing multiple pots I should have won and finished 13th, despite having been in the first spots the whole time. Highly frustrating.

That was bad.

All I can say is I feel your pain. Mine was a couple nights ago AK vs. A7. I went all in pre flop and it took 90% of his stack to call me.

A 7 hit on the turn and I was done. 10th to outside looking in

See why you shouldn't throw everything in preflop? I'm sure with a decent sized raise and continuation bet on the flop, you would have won the pot... - but hindsight is always 20/20.

But, still, each of those beats suck....

Suckage like this is another reason I rarely play tournaments.

Depends on the stack sizes with respect to the blinds and position. Might have been a great open push.

That's true....need more information But, when it costs someone 90% of their stack to call....but, maybe they were short stacked too (if that was the case.)

Im following up your 1st big bet with another about half his stack. It makes them think. I'll make them commit or fold. Im happy collecting the blinds and a little extra.

You just cannot beat raggidy rags when you are playing a crazy loon. Those sort of hands have no logic. Just another one of those sickeners that leaves u scratching you head wondering why you didnt just watch couple of movies instead. Unlucky
