Default AK late in tourney

Last night I was in a tournament and I was dealt AK. This was fairly late in the tournament about 5 spots from the money. I raised it up some and the big stack at the table put me all in after. I folded because I didnt want to risk my stack on a draw. A few hands later I got the same thing AK. I raised it up again and the same thing happened. A big stack put me all in. Only this time the guy that put me all in was doing this thing a lot. So i called and he ended up with QQ. Needless to say he won the pot and I was eliminated from the tournament 3 spots from the money. Any advice as to what to do in these situations?

ouch i don't know if i would've done anything differently. i mean your close to the money, but your dealth a really good hand yourself. unfortunately you ran into a better hand. too bad your ace didn't flop.

I wouldn't let the big stack push me around when I'm holding AK. It's hard to put him on a big pair, however I don't play big slick as aggressive as I used to. It's burned me many times. If I get reraised now, I just call and see if I flop an ace or King before I commit all my chips. I know in your case, just a call was all in, but you gotta go with it. Any time you're holding AK, you're at worst a 2 1/2 to 1 dog, unless you're up against AA or KK

you gotta call, unless your up against AA or KK which you cant be sure off you'll be getting odds to call as you either have a big advantage on 2 high cards or a coin toss against a pocket pair.

i would only call if i was in immediate danger of being blinded out... when u are so close to the money y would u risk your game unless u had to? my preflop raise woud prob have been smaller unless i was in very good position as well.that way if i run into a ahnd i can fold without greatly damaging my stack..remember at that point in the tourney peolpe are trying to last and make $$. Even if it isnt a lot of money..too many ppl lose close to the money when they didnt have to..if you consistantly try to try to NEVER put a lot of chips at risk unless u have a made hand (QQ maybe or KK or AA preflop and trips or better after flop) at least until u at least make your buyin back..your bankroll will not fluctuate as much and you will have less deviation (what you probably call bad beats ) from your normal profitability. that is my advice.. try it out for a while to see if it changes your overall profitability.

Be the big stack at your table that way know one can put you all in !!

As a short stack I push all in !

If i'm somewhere in the middle and close to the bubble I agree with mbelsky ! make a move after you get your buy in back !

that close to the money i would probably limp in and not invite a reraise. that's if i plyed them if i'm not too short stacked i'll fold out till in the money with the exceptions of a big pocket pair. i do that because i've gambled right before the money and was the guy out in 21 when it payed 20 and that really hurts!
