tbh I think the pay structure of the tourney is a major factor here.
in your standard MTT I would still call on the bubble.
I'm looking to win not place in the money.

Well unless you had a pretty high M.

If my M is greater than 15 I'll never CALL off my chips with AK unless I have a significant read on a player and he has a habit of raising light.

What is M? I think that no matter what the situation is, AK is a good hand to take a shot at doubling your chips..... I would of pushed all in to start with if the blinds are big enough that it makes a difference. The only way you are getting called then is if it is a pocket pair so you are still getting good odds.

Its just a tough unfortunate situaton. I would have made the same play, you gotta play to win, not just place, if you keep folding A,K...you're gonna blind down and have little shot at victory, so good play, hopefully next time in the same spot your oponent has A,Q ooooor....you connect on the flop if he does have that QQ again

M is defined as the number of orbits you have before you go broke. Calculate your M as follows

M = (Your Chips Stack) / (Big Blind + Small Blind + (Ante * # of players at table) )

ust my worthless two cents, recently I have found it better to just call with AK because if you don' hit the flop, its an easy fold, but if you hit you are gonna win big. I would rather lose with a pair than to lose with big ace. I know most of you are gonna says its 50-50 chance. On the other hand if I have a small pair against someone who I put on AK, I'm calling most of the time depending on how deep into tourney and chipstacks. My bottom line........................

DONT FALL IN LOVE WITH A BIG ACE.

especially for all your chips
