Question Buy-in for ring games?

What I buy in for usually depends on what the other stacks at the table are. For instance, if it's a $50 table, but the other stacks only have an average of $30, I'll sit with $30.

If I'm running bad that day and there's a bunch of tall stacks at the table, I'll sit with 2x the minimum (40BB.)

Any other time, I'll buy in for the max amount (100BB.)

In limit I always make sure I have at least 12 BB at the table.

At NL I usually buy in short. About 30 - 40 % of the table average. This makes it more likely that I can get all my money in by the flop. If I get all my money in first, then it is usually a mistake for anyone to call me with a draw as I can't pay them off at the correct odds. This allows me to induce more mistakes in my opponents, and prevents me from making bad turn and river decisions. It also prevents me from making good turn and river decisions that win enormous pots, but I am doing pretty well with my chosen method.

I think it depends on your ability.
If your a very capable player for your limit and can play 100BB well then buying in full is more profitable.

If you find it difficult to lay down Toppair or Overpairs then 30-50BB will do you better as you can commit with your strong pairs all the time and be profitable.

I agree with Deco - ability is the most important factor to me. I like to buy in (NL) for about $10 over the biggest stack.

If I take a beat I rebuy to match that amount again. I like playing the big stack though and forcing the smaller stacks to make a decission .

Biscuit and I, it seems, would drive a table crazy LOL. Him going all in and me putting you all-in!

Limit, to be honest, I buy in for whatever the site tells me to. A bit to lazy to change it . Now, if I find a bully at the table in limit I will ramp it up and go after him when I can.

max is best. It makes others make a mistake. Just put it up and play (make sure you have about 10 reserves) and you will be fine as long as your strategy is. Never let your money at the table influence your play

Isn't this where an experienced player goes when they get low on cash, to get a few extra dollars, so they can play in a tourney?

I do this in the play money table games.
If I see a tourney I would like to play in, I would go to the regular tables/ring games, and collect a little bounty and then go play my tournament.

If I happen to run out of free money by getting too bold, I get the 1,000 chip reload anyways so I can sign up for a tourney.

Now, if the tournament is for over 1,000 buy-in chips, then I will have to play at the table games anyways, to build up my chip stack.

I usually have over 5,000 chips most of the time, so I don't fret over the amount of chips I have.
I just like to play and find a way to get more chips.
