Question Rebuy & Addon Tournament Strategy

I guess I really don't fully understand the way some people play R&A tournaments. During my 3rd place finish in the $7K guaranteed yesterday, there were people at my first table going all in almost every hand, and turning over crap like 58, T3, Q5 ..

I can understand that it's good strategy to get chips early on in a R&A tournament, but to me, pushing with garbage like that is just stupid. If you want to go all in, wait for something worth pushing...

I used that to my advantage yesterday and quadrupled up within the first 15 minutes and never needed a rebuy. One person at that table went broke 6 different times; possibly more, because they ended up breaking our table. To top it off, that person never made the money.

I had so many chips by the end of the rebuy period that I didn't even need an add-on. I was already CL at that point.

I guess the question is: Why push with garbage? I know the buy-in is irrelevant when it comes to rebuy's, as long as the lowest payout is more than your total cost to rebuy that many times.

...or am I just in left field here?

I see that same strategy being employed also, and I have never understood why so many people use it. Like you, I wait for opportunities to double up cheaply. I hate to rebuy!

Same here. I rarely have to rebuy, although I do prefer a freeze out tournament if the prize pool is large enough.

It's also against my religion to push all in pre-flop with 93o in either a cash game or tournament.

Think about it. Would you throw $25 in the pot with that crap in a cash game? If so, let me know and I'll play you heads up any day.

Yeah I dont' get that either Beaston....and they do it alot....
why not save there rebuy $ and go play a bigger payout tourney....

I dont' like to have to rebuy either..but never fails...I have something like QQ, AK and they go all in...and bet me on the 93 crap they went all in with.....that is when I start yelling at the computer!!!

That's right, yell at the pc, it helps getting the flustrations out. I don't know many players who don't do the same thing.

Just a couple weeks ago I came in first place in a play money Hold'em tourney. How I got there wasn't by going all in. I just started off with good hands and then ran into a few people who liked going all-in.

As Beaston mentioned, by the first break I too was the CL. I also kept good control of those chips up until the final table. The final table is a tricky one and I almost finished in 6th place, but gathered my senses, played the cards right and made first.

I also think it's stupid. I mean, some people apparently do it and win a ton of money that way, but it's just pathetic.. 6 times is nothing, I've seen a guy on Pokerstars rebuying over 15 times (every tournament, or until he got a massive lead). So many times that even the last paying places don't cover, so they only make money if they end in the top 5. But, when it did work, he'd start the game with 30k chips to the second's 10k.

Thing is, that guy actually did end on the final table very, very often. I wish I could remember his name. He was always in the top 20 ladder.
