Slow Playing or Trap what is the difference?
After Reading some of the other posts, and watching Phil cuss someone out for "slow playing". I gotta ask...What is the difference between slow playing and traping?
The other night I was playing and i had an AK, pre-flop someone else raised, of course I call. (AK is not my fav hand...i actually hate it..lol)
So...on the flop comes KK6, I check the other guy bets...I call....
River turns an 8 or something small, but it makes me worrry about a flush draw, so I bet 1/2 pot. The guy calls....River comes J, this still doesn't worry me..since now the flush draw is in tolet.
I bet pot, he raises, I of course call....and win it...he has some low pair with the K's.
Now..to me I set this trap, I wanted his chips, i checked the 3 K's so he would think he had good hand.
But now...according to Phil that is slow playing....LOL (I dont' like the guy anyway)
So I thought I would ask the question here.....what do you think?
what is the difference between the two??

Re: Slow Playing or Trap what is the difference?
Slow playing is what you do after you have had a few too many to drink, so your mind isn't working up to par (slow thinking) , thus you make a slower-than-usual play on the table; slow playing.
I hope that clears up the slow play part, and as for the trapping, that is what you did to your opponent.
Anyone else want to give this one a try?

Its pretty much the same thing. You slow play to try to trap some chips.
If you hate AK, then you might like this: AK = Anna Kournikova - looks good but doesn't win anything!

Re: Slow Playing or Trap what is the difference?
Just remember one thing - Slow play kills!
I used to slow play a lot, but it really hurts when you slow play your way to losing the pot by letting them catch their miracle 1-3 outer
I hardly ever slow play anymore, UNLESS I have the nuts that can't be beaten by any draw. I love doing this, and quite frequently get calls from people with some stupid hand of theirs because they don't know what to think.

I actually like fast playing a hand like trips more because so few people expect you to play it that way. They can't believe you would actually bet the flop with a hand that strong.

Re: Slow Playing or Trap what is the difference?
I think the main difference is that you can trap with any hand, while you can only slowplay with a very strong hand.
Slowplaying only covers doing things like calling your trip Ks on the turn so you can raise the person on the river.
A trap can be done in any situation, IE fast calling someone on the flop just for the sake of betting/raising them on the turn. You can trap someone into having a weak hand in a number of scenarios.

Case closed!
Great explanation. Even I understood that!

Re: Slow Playing or Trap what is the difference?
My guess is that BB should have gone all in from the start. He only had $9 to start.
When you are that low in cash and have AA pre flop - All-In Baby!!!
