What's Happening Now
I decided to start a different thread to talk about what's happening now or what's happening today. This way we can talk about the upcoming holidays or a special holiday...
Tomorrow is Lincoln's Birthday and if he were alive he would be 202 years old.
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th 1809. After being elected as President of the United States in 1860, he spent the rest of his life and career towards molding the US into a free country for all peoples.
Abraham Lincoln is best known for issuing the executive order of the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st 1863 to end slavery and later by adding the 13th ammendment to the Constitution which abolished slavery.
Lincoln was a visionary and he shaped America with all the power he could muster. It would be nice to have a President like him today.

Re: What's Happening Now
Well, yesterday was Valentine's Day and it slipped my mind to post about it here.
Guess I was too busy thinking of love and other Valentine wishes.
I hope y'all had a great Valentine's Day!
A full moon will be on the rise on Friday and next Monday is Presidents' Day.
If you live in the US and have something to do on the 21st, remember that a lot of places will be closed to observe Presidents' Day.

Re: What's Happening Now
The day of the Full Moon, that's today, where you can have a lot of luck or you can get into a lot of trouble (if you live in eastern US).
It's a Friday and a lot of us will be out and about spending paychecks or just looking for some action.
Just be careful and watch out for the other guy when your traveling on the highways and in town for that matter. Drive defensively, not offensively (we don't need any of that road rage out there).
Have a great weekend y'all and play lots of poker!

Re: What's Happening Now
Presidents' Day was yesterday and most US Government buildings like the Postal Service were closed, plus most banks were closed as well to observe this day.
Today is Washington's Birthday; and to this day George Washington is known as "the father of his country" or our Country, the U.S.A.
George Washington formed the leadership and backbone of the US, with the help of many friends and congressmen.
Happy Birthday President Washington! I wish we had more Presidents like you, today.

Re: What's Happening Now
That past weekend it was like Spring weather here in the Southeast US.
Last night it rained like cats and dogs for a few hours; thunderstorms and the like with tornado warnings until 8:00pm.
I guess we will have an early Spring this year in the southern-half of the US.
Ash Wednesday is coming up next week. Some type of Christian ceramonial thing that has to do with burning palm branches and other things.
I've noticed Daylight Savings Time will begin on Sunday, March 13th.
Perhaps they will end up doing away with time change before long, which is fine by me. I don't like messing with changing the clocks every so many months.
Where it use to be changing the clocks every 6 months, now they're down to changing them in November and the following March; that's only 4 months of time difference.
Times change as life goes on and so does the Time Changes, whenever someone decides to make life easier on the rich (or the golfers I guess).

Re: What's Happening Now
I love a great post or posts as much at the next guy, but making six posts in a total of six minutes is called duplicate content.
Please, if you would like to make a post, make it original and put some thought into it.
Some of my stories may be slightly boring to some, but most of them are true stories and are actually typed out, not copied and pasted.
Thank you for taking your time to read this. Now, what kind of poker action have you gotten into lately?
If you have a poker game you would like to discuss or you're having problems in your poker game, pick a related topic about it and I'd be glad to give a few hinters about poker games.

Re: What's Happening Now
Japan was hit by a big earthquake today that registered a magnitude of 8.8-8.9 and others mention there were several more ranging from 6.9 to 7.3. The official earthquake magnitude was 8.9.
A big 23-foot tsunami was triggered following the 8.9 earthquake near Japan and more than 200 people lost their lives, with the numbers expected to rise once daylight reaches Japan again.
Please pray for the people in Japan, as the earthquakes may still be on the rise near the east coast of Honshu Japan.

Re: What's Happening Now
I'm sure most of you have already heard about the nuclear power plant in Japan and that it had an explosion on March 11th 2011...
There's been a second explosion at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and this time it was reactor #2 that went off-line.
That's 3 out of six reactors that are now down because of cooling sytem failures...
These were caused by the tsunami hitting the backup generators and the battery backups being drained off.
Now there's talk of a risk of higher radiation leaks and a possible meltdown.
I surely hope and pray that we humans can get this fixed.

Re: What's Happening Now
Well, so much for Punxsutawney Phil's forecast for an early Spring this year...
Ok, so there was an early Spring, but it was followed by "the rest of the Winter."
Pensylvania gets several inches of snow and before they get their snow Wisconsin gets 17 inches of snow!
Meanwhile in the South, we had cool breezes and 80 degree temperatures...
Needless to say, this morning it's near freezing before the sun reaches the horizon.
Perhaps this is our "blackberry winter", a cold snap before the blackberries plants begin to grow their fruit.

Re: What's Happening Now
I had meant to post about this after it happened, but I'm sure everyone has heard about it by now; Japan had a 7.1 "aftershock" last Thursday afternoon local time, on April 7th.
I still wonder why they call those earthquakes aftershocks. To me an aftershock is something like a 4.0 magnitude or less.
Any ground shaking that's a 5.0 to a 7.0 magnitude is considered an earthquake in my book.
I lived through a 5.3 magnitued earthquake in northern CA three miles from where I was standing many years ago and it was no "aftershock".
The aftershocks from that one were ranging from 2.0 to 3.5 magnitudes.
I really hope the earthquakes in Japan will stop soon, they have been through a lot already and really need a break right now so they can clean up from the big earthquake and tsunami that hit them.
