Question about hand ranks

im pretty new to poker only been playing about 4 months
what still puzzles me is ranks
i understand why a straight beats a pair
i understand y a flush beats a striaght
but why do a flush and a straight beat 3 of a kind
i mean the odds for hitting 3 of 4 cards in the pack is better than catching five in a row or suited??
who made these rules lol
i just think odds should favour 3 of a kind over a flush or straight ??
figure someone out there will know why it dosnt lol
thanks

I was looking back at some old post and ran across this one that showed the odds of actually capturing certain poker hands. I guess these figures are true to a 'live game' of poker with a single deck of 52 cards; however, I think it is not true with online poker and the numeric algorithms that are used to randomly generate cards and/or simulate a deck of cards because it seems that there is a st8 or flush almost every five hands or so depending on the site. In my personal opinion, poker.com seems to be the closest I have found to correctly simulating a true single deck of cards because you don't always see those killer hands winning.
