Default Re: Double or Nothing at PokerStars

wow 80% is great!
thought I add some math here so no-one will wonder
BASED AT 100 sessions(tourneys)

winner recieves $2.00
buy-in: $1. +.10
100 games cost: $1.10 x 100= $110.00
total earnings: $2.00 x 100 = $200.00
tourney fee: .10 x 100 = $10.00
total net profit: $200.-$10. = $90.00

To break even at
a 100 games: $2.00 x 55 games = $110.00

PER 100 tourneys:
winner recieves $10.00
buy-in: $5.40
100 games cost: $540.00
total earnings: $1000.00
tourney fee: $40.00
total net profit: $460.00

To break even at
a 100 games: $10. x 54 games = $540.00

PER 100 tourneys:
winner recieves $20.00
buy-in: $10.80
100 games cost: $1080.00
total earnings: $2000.00
tourney fee: $80.00
total net profit: $920.00

To break even at
a 100 games: $20.00 x 54 games = $1080.00

PER 100 tourneys:
winner recieves $50.00
buy-in: $25.00 + $2.00
100 games cost: $2700.00
total earnings: $5000.00
tourney fee: $200.00
total net profit: $2100.00

To break even at
a 100 games: $50.00 x 54 games = $2700.00

Am I looking at this right?

You have to win 54% of the time to break even?

That is a lot of work and a tad bit crazy.

Sorta - win yes but in these there are 10 players and the top 5 finishers all get the same money (double your buy-in - minus tournament fees)

So the reality is you have to beat 50% of the people 54% of the time

I think the bubble has burst though. For the first time since I started, I played 5 turbo games and all 5 went into the 100/200 blinds with 8+ players remaining. It looks like it has turned into a wait game for everyone.

I'll try one more a see if that was a one time phenomenon but looks like the fun may be over . Not interesting in playing for hours to double money. If this is it the final tally was $105. This was like buying a stock just at the right time LOL.

These do sound intresting....are they labeled "Double or Nothing" in the poker software?

I play alot of the SnG games, usually 2.50$ to $5 games...and I always have low bankroll...LOL I use the SnG games to build up money.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but couldn't one take advantage of those that are trying to "wait it out" and accumulate a great chip lead, then let the short stacks fight it out for 5th place by the time they're almost blinded out?

I think propiper mentioned that in one of his threads.
But it was he who watched the others battle it out, while taking a few chips with his good hands, and then make it to the final 5.

Did I get that right propiper?

Use to - now no one plays and it turns into a all-in slugfest at the end.

Yea, but seems like the gig is up. I played 4 more $1 tournaments at the same time. ALL played the same - everyone folded unless with nut hand. Blinds got so high it was all-in or nothing and the 5 luckiest one.

I cashed out $100 and started with <$2 - not to bad!

Yea Players tend to try to hold thus making it a very boring game an tuffer to place, Ive also noticed that eveing time, the play is more agressive/thus making the game go quicker and profitable. I avoid early morning games(7to10am) Just a thing with me, I have the worst luck durring those hours playing dubble-ups.

I have found their are ways around this and way to induce player mistakes,Ive been playing them to feed my other buy-ins and table play,First Im by no means saying this:"is some super style of play nor am I saying it good poker ethics."
But it tends to trigger players to fold and produces other players, to make mistakes! NOT ALL PLAYERS BUT ENOUGH hmm...To get where the BB is higher and wounded ones are lookin for a dubble-up or loss, durring theses type of games you are speaking of I will gamble more at short stacks IF IT WON'T AFFECT ME NEGATIVE/ALSO TAKE IT AS MY DUTY IF BIG STACK, TO TRY TO END THE GAME..

If in a game: LIKE YOU ARE SPEAKING OF!,
I continue to bump the anti untill someone gets tired of it and calls or reraises, then its up to me to decide if its worth calling or just let it go at that point, this produce unthought of play at times and will see sign of what players you can tilt easy and induce them into loosing, or sucking out on a tight player either way making the game go quicker. although being loose at times can be a quite successful way in building chips in these games. Try throwing some spice to the game,Its not about propper play, its about top five and figuring out how to get your table at each other, thus making it that game you enjoyed when you started.

I will say these are NOT my favorite games to play If I was to make a choice of what single table was my favorite I'd go with a 10 seat turbo top 4 ITM..

Like I said they look really nice but they are playyed different an its only a dubble up compared to say a
MTT $2000.00 Guarentee Tournament
Buy-in: $6.00 + .60
First Pays: $549.00
You need to win tourney "1/96" trys to break even, or ITM estament around 52 Times, or final tables 31 times within 96 tournaments BUT IT DIFFERENT IN EVER CASE
I look for value, guarenteed Tournaments, added money, an hope I get lucky

now ones I havent been able to play cause of buyin to high FOR ME TO PLAY AT A DAYLY BASIS are like this one:
50,000.00 guarentee
say $100.00 + $9.00 buyin
Say first pays: $ $20,000.00
so to me thats says I will break even if I win this thing (1/183) and so on, IF YOU LOOK AROUND YOU CAN FIND THESE WITH A FIELDS OF PLAYERS UNDER 1100
NOW THAT LOOKS TASTY!
HAPPY NEWYEARS!
