Default SB & BB Starting Hands

Has anyone noticed when your small or big blind and you have a really weak hand with no preflop chance of winning with a hand like 8-2 unsuited and you end up limping in by checking or calling cause its cheap. The majority of the time you hit a really lucky flop by hitting two-pair, trips or even 4 of a kind. Has anybody been lucky in that situation?

Yes several times actually. then they get upset when you bet. If they are going to give it to you, what do they expect? Take it and ask them if they want to give you another BB special. Tell them you will take them all day.

I am not sure if you are referring to cash-games or tournament play.

Perhaps it's more logical to play garbage in cash-games - but in MTT:s and SNG:s I consider it bleeding chips limping from SB with garbage.

Bear in mind you are first to act fter the flop (unless heads-up) and need a prefect flop to go anywhere.

I am also pretty sure that your actual stats when limping from SB with weak hands is negative overall.

A far better way to play the garbage from SB is to simply raise pf if folded around to you (DON'T min-raise - I wont even fold 3-2o to a min-raise in the BB). And then bet out on the flop, or even check-raise with air. Limping sucks.

Poker is pretty simple - raise your top hands and muck the garbage.
You might want to limp to trap - but even that is a pretty stupid play - if the BB is gonna suck out on your AA or KK or whatever have him at least pay some for it.

Yes, I have noticed this. Quite often I manage to hit hands on the blinds when I would never touch them if I had to pay.

It happens with me alot actually. Limping in with a very weak hand pre-flop ends up being the best hand.

i like to limp in on big blind small blind no matter what i have cause most people always think if the big blind or small blind is staying in past the flop after just limping in that theyve got a low pair when really you could have a great starting hand and have them dominated the whole time and theyve fallen right in your trap

What is "alot"? Without statistics to back up this statement, I find it hard to believe. Limping in with "a very weak hand" in most instances means a "very weak" flop. And if you're "limping" in from the SB, you're paying extra for the privilege. In the long run, weak hands are just that, weak hands, and a drain on long term profit. You might catch something every now and then and those will be the ones you remember, but I believe if you are being honest with yourself you will notice that most of the time the flop is of no help for you against a stronger hand, or just enough help in assisting you to lose a hefty portion of your stack. And the beginning message in this thread pretty much summed it up when it asked if you ever got "lucky" doing this.

Yes I have had 7 3 and the flop came 7 3 10 but i wasnt lucky. I didnt want to play that hand but I was already in the BB, so I checked but then when I hit the flop, i checked and these guy behind me bet about 4 times the big blind and i raised him all in, and he called. The guy flips over 3 10, so im desperate for a seven. And I lost. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
