Remember that if you have 14 outs or better on the flop (and It sounds like you had around 15) makes you the favorite, so your call was not a dumb move but a good one. A better move might have all in since half your stack was gone anyway, depending on the blinds and your viability after committing half your stack. Of course the guy sitting on aces would have likely called, but he would have been very uneasy about it since you could be representing two pair or trips. A guy with a lesser hand may have folded.
