Default Weak Aces

How are these to be played in aÂ* poker tournament setting? I've been mucking around with them alot lately but I'm not sure how to get the most out of them..

Whats the cutoff of them? talking 6-8 person table?

If they are suited I almost always try to limp in with them, but I'm having a hard time putting a value on a hand like A7-A10. I've been picking these up late position and limping and hitting an A on the flop but I find my 9 is outkicked by a 10, or they aren't strong enough to put people off of drawing hands I find

I like A2s - A5s better than A6 - A7 - A8 because you have more outs.

I agree with you. I just feel more comfortable with ACE and 2-5. I agree that you have more outs that way. It also limits your cards that you are looking for and gives you better insight on wheter you should stay or fold after the flop. If you are holding ACE and 8 in the hole and you flop 2/3/7, you just cut your chances way down from getting your straight. On most of the sites that I play on, you see more straights hit than you do 3 of a kinds.

Simple solution, don't play them. Anything less than A-10s or AJos is barely playable, especially in a tournament. These are the types of hands a lot of people get in trouble with cause they'll hit their ace and end up getting outkicked. If you're in late position and it gets folded to you is about the only time I'd play a weak ace, or if you're in a blind and no one has raised.

Got to agree with DSV - and don't say but I could hit the nut flush - the odds are not worth the investment unless it's really early in the tournament and the blinds are really low. You're chances of hitting the flush on the flop are less than 1% so generally fold them - ok you might get 2 cards towards you're flush but do you really want to get involved with a hand where you know you'll probably be behind and chasing when you could just wait for a better hand?

I've changed my mind... raise all in with ace rag (suited or not) - DSV is ALWAYS wrong :P

Default Re: Weak Aces

I am currently experimenting with an alternate strategy as far as ace crap is concerned.

Ususally I don't play anything below AJ - or ATsuited

But lately instead of lowering the requirement for the kicker to say 8 or 7 - I've included the suited Aces with a kicker that has straight possibilities...so now I am also playing A2s A3s A4s and A5s....for the right price of course...never more than the BB unless on the button where it warrants a pretty hefty raise to end the hand then and there...

If an ace flops I trust my postflop play to read whether I'm outkicked or not - and should a straight fall down around me - as it seems to do ever so often - it's a pretty well concealed hand.

I am not saying this is an optimal strategy - but if you're gonna play suited aces - why not take advantage of the added (and more covert) low-straight potential.

Also If your comfortable with your post flop play and can fold an Ace rag if you hit an Ace on the flop but know your behind or not....

Dont be afraid to play them against a reasonable raise sometimes with a little luck you can stack an opponent if you hit your flush or straight or sometimes if the opponent was playing KK/QQ Heads Up an Ace can win it for you

(Im talking about suited aces here)

Normaly I don't play anthing lower than A10, but lately I've been trying A2-A5 suited only, and only if I can limp in. I figure with the A2-A5 it gives me a few more outs. Flush, straight, straight flush. I deffinately wont raise with these cards and if it's raised before me then I'll fold. A6-9 I'll just muck, unless there's only 4 or less people left at the table, then I might try to play them.
