A couple of Gus-ish hands
Prior to playing yesterday, i spent about an hour reading a strategy guide that advocated an approach a bit different from the Harringtonian solid style. It basically said to be very loose pre-flop in position and be extremely aggresive post-flop.
This style doesn't come naturally to me - but I decided to give it a go in the FullTilt freeroll.
Here are a couple of hands that illustrate the pros of this strat. (To fully comply with this line I laid down AQ and KJ preflop almost everytime. Those hands get you raped more than they win according to this....) anyway....
Hand 1.
This is literally the third hand of the tournament. There are so many limpers - I decide the deck must be completely drained on high cards and I have a better than average shot at nailing something well disguised with my extremely weak holding...my crystal ball was spot on

Flop: ( $195, 6 players)
BB checks, UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets $120, CO raises to $240, 4 folds, Hero raises all-in $1455, CO calls all-in $1080.
Uncalled bets: $135 returned to Hero.

Final pot: $2835
Hero showed 2h 4h
CO showed Ac 3s
Hand 2.
I decided to attack with no mercy when I smelled weakness post-flop. I am aware that this leaves me wide open to getting check-raised - but hopefully the times I pick up the pot will make up for it:

Turn: ( $220, 2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $40, Hero raises to $200, Button folds.
Uncalled bets: $160 returned to Hero.
Results:
Final pot: $300
Hand 3.
Here the style back-fires a bit. I donk it up thinking my middle pair is actually good. Later I realize that this chick limps everything, even KK in late position pre-flop...hence the wrong read on my part:

Re: A couple of Gus-ish hands
Hand 7.
I normally wouldn't call a raise with T 8, but I have odds and a perfect ricky hand, and the small raise is weird..I was thinking either AA or QJo....all is well that ends well. Thank you " I'll go broke with TPTK"-guy!

Re: A couple of Gus-ish hands
where was this strategy...could be an intresting read....
I definatly agree with the AQ/KJ hands I almost always fold these to a raise.... unless they are soooted... but I hate those "trouble Hands" as doyle says.....
I will list the trouble hands for you guys here...... these hands are sooooo overrated to must average players but these hands should be treated with the upmost caution....
as I said I would never call a raise with them.... except under certain circumstances.....
Hands of Trouble are as follows........ A-Q/A-J/A-10/K-Q/K-J/K-10/Q-J/-Q-10/J-10/10-9/9-8
how many people are surprised at that selection...and how many of you would call a raise with one of those unsuited hands...
I was surprised at first... but it certainly opened my eyes when I discovered this fact...

Re: A couple of Gus-ish hands
OK I'll post one final hand from the bubble
Hand 69
This is a very good example how not to play a pair of kings. Not on the bubble, not in france, not on the landing-grounds - not ever. Thank you sneaky slow-playing offspring of a fish married donk - guy!
The reason I don't shove the rest of my stack on the turn is that we are on the bubble and I guess only a better hand will call me so....

Re: A couple of Gus-ish hands
I quite like this strategy... its a bit looser than what im used to but ill give it a whirl....
Im normally quite loose in the MTTs early on anyway..... with the SC etc but I never considered the likes of
8-10o etc and/or protecting my blinds so much.....
And I quite like the lead the crap flop idea too.... Ill give it a whirl tonight on FT see if I can join you on Sat in round two

Re: A couple of Gus-ish hands
I have done the exact same stratigy late in a champs freeroll. i had and called the bb in late position. People took me as weak so about 5 people bet hard enough to make me go all in. I ended up with two pair. They were dumbstruck by my call but I was just counting cards. I took down the main pot and some side pots. When asked why i called was it just a gut feeling? I replied ya it was a gut feeling.
