when holding amall pocket pair preflop do you like to limp in and wait for it to hit or preflop raise substantially to narrow the field in case it doesn't?
Better keep head on your shoulders and if the cards are not quite so good just don't try to scare players with ALL IN. Believe me, i lost for many times this way.
For me if it's a 5-10 seated table I'd normally limp in, But depending on my position I could be tempted to raise it up to try and throw people of there hand.
poker is a game of options but you don't want to be predictable.
you don't want to hurt your chip count to much with a hand like that.
so if a raise is likely to still the blinds or get it down to 2 players without getting you pot comited then raise.
you can limp in if you think no one will raise and play the hand post flop.
or you can fold this hand and look for a better one the odds of your hand getting better isn't good.
i agree with the Hun, it depends on my position, stack, and what i think the other player will do. raising with a low pair preflop could be asking to get trapped. so unless i am going to try to bull doze the hand, then i think it best to limp in.
MY rules of thumb are...limp during the very first levels (no set no bet - to trap the Ax morons who always inhabit the early levels)...midlle stages...limp if M over 20 otherwise raise or fold.
Once Antes kick in i will raise all pocket pairs regardless of position and M. With a very low M of course it is a push preflop.
