Default Donk's Razz 101

Hey there,
I guess on a forum it wouldn't be appropriate to write a long guide on how to play Razz, and I don't really want people to beat me either, but here's a short summary to the basics of winning in Razz cash games. Razz' strategy is really mechanical since there are only about 10-20% of hands where you don't know if you're ahead or beat. Anyone following these simple rules will at least stay even.

- Only play hands when you're in position (one of the last to talk) UNLESS you have a premium hand (3 starting cards 6 or under) and the opponents' board isn't filled with cards you need. IE if I have 742 and there are 5 players after me, 3 of which have an ace or a 3, I will either call the small bet or fold, never raise).

- Only play hands in which you have 3 cards below 8 (and the 8 is hidden) UNLESS the people left to talk have cards above yours and everyone before you folded. IE If everyone folded and I have J63 with the 3 showing, and the people to my left have cards above a 6, I'll almost always raise and pick up the pot)

- Never play 3rd street with a card above a 6-7 showing UNLESS everyone else has similar or worse cards.

- Try to avoid crapshoots. If you have 642 and your opponents have 5s and 3s and aces showing, just call.. you most likely have the best hand but the 4th card will probably be something you don't like, such as a 8+. It's been better for me to just call 3rd street and see what the 4th card is.

- Sounds logical but only play in hands where you're ahead. If you have something like 94A36 and the opponent has xx4J2 then you are 100% guaranteed to be ahead. The only reason you should ever be drawing in this game is on 4th street if you started with a premium hand (and the 4th card was bad) or if the opponent outdrew you but you're drawing to the best hand. IE in that previous example, say I had 94A368 and the guy had xx4J23, the chances are good that he has you beat BUT there will be enough money in that pot by now that a check-call is always worth it UNLESS you saw that the opponents who folded dropped 2s and 5s.

Anyway, it probably made no sense but it's a start. Post in the thread if you have questions.
