The DOJ and online poker.
According to the latest info, the DOJ has decided that the only thing that the Wire Act of 1961 covers is online sports betting leaving the opening for online casinos, online poker, and online bingo to come back into play here in the United States.
The UIGEA which was passed in 206 had put a damper on all of the online games that we here in the United States love to play. But now with the DOJ having had a change of mind as to what the Wire Act covers, it will only be a matter of time before we are back to our favorite online games.

Mark Hichar, a partner who heads the gambling law group at Edwards Wildman, said the opinion could potentially open the door for states to cooperate together on lottery initiatives and other gambling offerings like Internet poker and other casino games. “The Department of Justice at long last has removed a cloud that existed with respect to intrastate Internet wagering and we have yet to see how far reaching its implications will be,” Hichar said

This finding is quite a surprise and has very unexpected. Hopefully putting online casinos and online poker back within our reach will not take as long as this has.

Re: The DOJ and online poker.
I really hope this isn't some kind of ploy that I'm use to seeing by the US Government:
Say one thing then turn around and change their meaning again, after people/companies start making changes on what they think is right.
I'd love to see online poker and casino games make their way back into the USA. They never should have been threatened to pull out of the US in the first place (I think it's just a monopoly thing).
So, it may be safe to say that the Las Vegas casinos will soon be flooding the internet with their online games. Only time will tell.

Re: The DOJ and online poker.
Im with you, the doubts are quite worrisome. But maybe we will be lucky and everything will roll smoothly into our being able to play at online casinos and poker rooms here shortly.
I cant wait to be able to sit in the comfort of my home hopefully this winter and play online casinos etc. Its been a long 5 years without our being able to play online.

Re: The DOJ and online poker.
A friend of mine sent a link to me on an article about the DoJ and how they made this flip-flop decision about poker, lotteries and other online games being legal for US players to play online.
Well, it's actually a blog made by Professor I. Nelson Rose, and on his site, Gambling and the Law, he discusses these decisions made by the DOJ.
Any normal human being knows it isn't rocket science to read the laws and decipher them accordingly.
Why is it so hard for college grads and their law degrees to figure it out? Yeah I know, it's all about the greenbacks.
If they would have just made a online gambling law and taxed it back in 2006, the revenue would have raked in more than $300 million by now (just a guesstimate)...
Plus, think of all the extra jobs that would have been made by it.

Re: The DOJ and online poker.
Any comments about the DOJ's latest decisions on online gambling in the US are appreciated.
I think the person who said online gambling in the US was illegal, probably had a personal bad experience with either a parent or relative who was addicted to gambling at one point in their life...
Thus the wrongful verdict.
But hey, everything's ok now and online gambling is now legal again in the US. Say what? Make up our minds already so we can move on with our online gaming lives.

Don't forget - this is an election year. They'll actually have to do what they say they're gonna do. Then next year it'll go back to normal two-faced lies.

Re: The DOJ and online poker.
Thanks for the input beaston. You're probably right about that. I forgot about the election year and all the lies that entail.
They'll put the frosting on the cake and tell us they will put it up for sale...
Then just before we buy it off the shelf, they will yank it back down again and laugh in our faces (or tax the hell out of us again).

Re: The DOJ and online poker.
You are both right about the election year crap. We get all of these promises and why anyone believes them is totally beyond me. Its the same thing year after year. Its called redundancy simply because its repeating the same thing time after time with the same result. And that result amounts to bullshitting the american people.

You've got that right pokerbum, and let me finish the last part of your sentence...
..., taking away more of their freedoms and taxing the hell out of them in the process.
Welcome to America!

Re: The DOJ and online poker.
Another tid-bit of info about the DoJ, and this time it's the Everleaf Gaming Network among the accused...
An update about the Everleaf Gaming Network pulling out of the U.S., brought to you by Casino Affiliate Programs, and they quote...
"Everleaf has attempted to clear the air by offering the following statement":
Quote:
As has been reported, certain funds maintained by one of our payment processors to be distributed to U.S. customers were seized by U.S. authorities. To our knowledge, the U.S. authorities seized these funds and blocked the transactions based on purported violations of certain U.S. laws, including operating an illegal money transmitting business, the Wire Act, and money laundering. Evidence relative to the subject can be reviewed from the attached papers.
Please be advised that this seizure occurred in the United States and only affects U.S. players.
|
That is just part of the story: Read the rest of the news about Everleaf Gaming at Casino Affiliate Programs.
It looks like US players can no longer play at the Everleaf Gaming sites (thanks again to the DoJ—ah-hum, I mean money laundering), but other countries will still be able to.
