A little over a week ago I was playing in a NL Skill League Freeroll and came in 3rd place.
(Some of you may know where this is, but I will refrain from naming it. I usually like to play in one of their H.O.R.S.E. games on Sundays.)
Only 134 players in this freeroll that lasted 3 1/2 hours.
My turning point in this NL game;
I had just knocked out a player with trip kings two hands earlier.
Ante is 300 and Blinds are 1,000/2,000 and I have about 40,300 in chips or the big stack at this time.
Now, sitting in the SB I have a pair of 4's in my hand pre-flop and make a double bet of 4,000. BB calls and UTG raises to 8,000. The next two players call and the rest fold to me and I call.
The Flop comes; K-J-4.
I forgot what the suits were, I just knew that nobody could get a flush from the flop, so I make a pot bet.
BB folds and UTG sits for about a half a minute and then goes all-in.
The two players beside UTG have slightly larger stacks and call.
I figure at this time, someone else must have gotten their trips.
I raise all-in, if I lose I will still have 10,000 chips, and the two players after UTG call with an all-in.
The Turn comes; 8
The River comes; 4
The three players after me Muck.
Hot dang, I caught a 4 of a kind and just knocked out 3 more players!
One hand later was the 2nd Break and I sat in second place with 100,000+ chips.
I had a bad beat at the final table with 4 players left in the tourney.
Caught a 3 of kind on the turn, went all in and was taken down by a flush with the river card.
After that I had less than a thousand chips, so went all in with the next hand and out in 3rd place.
The heads-up play lasted about five minutes after that.
I would have loved to have made the heads-up play. I like to make it last as long as it can, tire the other player out and win the tourney.
